Who is a Catechist?

A Catechist is...

      A Person of faith,
            A witness to the Gospel,
A member of our Parish Community,
And a winess to the Church!

Through our Baptism each one of us is called to be a disciple, to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to make the Kingdom of God a reality in day to day living. Some people are called to be a catechist in their own community.
A catechist is called to be specifically involved in nurturing and preparing young children, youth or adults in the faith - preparing them for Sacraments of Initiation: Eucharist and Confirmation, and guiding them to live as witnesses of Christ.  A Catechist is called to proclaim the life of Christ and their faith in the mysteries of our religion, not simply by words but through their faithful living of our Catholic faith.

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)

The RCIA programme of our parish invites non-baptized persons, and those baptized in another Christian denomination, to participate in a faith journey in preparation for the Sacraments of Initiation.  St. Patrick's faith community supports them through prayer and presence on their journey of faith.  Adults interested in inquiring about membership in the Catholic Church are always welcome.

Our RCIA programme introduces the candidates to the life of Jesus through a study of the Gospel of Luke. It challenges them to recognize their role as witnesses of Christ, and so prepares them to know the faith they wish to commit to and the faith they must live.  Our RCIA programme lasts a duration of two years.
